Sand tray therapy

Sand tray therapy (also known as 'play therapy' involves using a literal tray of sand as a canvas, and a collection of assorted toys and objects for you to show me what's going on for you.

Sometimes it's hard to find the right words to describe our thoughts and feelings. Sometimes we brush aside our feelings and try to use logic to find the path forward. Sometimes we need a different approach. Sand tray therapy can help you to see things differently simply by having to explain them differently. It makes us use the more creative right side of the brain as opposed to the more prevalent logical left side, and in doing so it shifts our perspective which can have a huge beneficial effect. Plus it's fun!

In sand tray therapy we might choose to look at who you are where you would choose from the objects things that you feel drawn to, or that represent elements of yourself, we might look at your support network with different objects representing the people and things that keep you going, or we might look at how you're feeling in that moment. These topics will often be discussed through traditional talk therapies too, but in the sand tray instead of telling me, you are showing me, and that can feel a lot more powerful.
